Types

The Advantage of a Multi-Ply System

Modified Bitumen's strength comes from its robust, layered construction, making it a preferred choice for specific applications.

🔗 Superior Puncture Resistance

The combination of reinforced polyester or fiberglass with rubber-modified asphalt creates an incredibly tough surface. This makes it the perfect choice for roofs with heavy HVAC units, frequent foot traffic, or a higher risk of dropped tools or debris.

🔗 Excellent for Complex Roofs

The flexibility and robust nature of Modified Bitumen make it highly effective for roofs with numerous penetrations, such as vents, pipes, and skylights. The material can be expertly detailed around these features to create a durable, waterproof seal.

🔗 Variety of Application Methods

Modern Modified Bitumen systems can be installed in several ways. This versatility allows us to choose the safest and most effective application method for your specific building, whether it's avoiding open flames with a cold-applied system or using traditional torch-down techniques.

FAQ's

Frequently Asked
Questions

Here you’ll find a compilation of the most frequently asked questions. If there’s something you want to know which isn’t here, please send an email to office@iowaroofpros.com.

Is a Modified Bitumen roof energy efficient?

A standard black Modified Bitumen roof is not energy efficient. However, they can be manufactured with a "cool roof" granular surface or have a reflective coating applied after installation to significantly improve their energy efficiency and reduce building heat gain.

Is torch-down roofing safe to install?

While torch-down application is a traditional method, modern Modified Bitumen systems can also be installed with "cold process" adhesives or as "self-adhered" sheets that require no open flame. We select the safest and most effective application method for your specific property.

What does "multi-ply" mean and why is it a benefit?

Multi-ply means the roof is built up with multiple, overlapping layers of material (typically 2-3). This creates redundancy, so even if the top layer is damaged, there are still waterproof layers below, offering a higher degree of security and puncture resistance.
